Original Pour Le Merite WWI era Blue Max Medal

This is an exquisite example of a famous German award for outstanding personal achievement.  It is 100% original and complete, in excellent condition with minor flaking of the surface enamel in two areas but displays extremely well.  The piece has been authenticated by noted German medal collector and historian Steven Previtera.  The medal weighs 25.51g and measures 53.467mm high and 53.484mm wide.  determined to date from 1918, a silver-gilt Wagner PLM.  The weight and size fall into the textbook dimensions of accepted measurements.  It is properly marked with a "W" to indicate that it was created by the firm of Wagner as well as the proper 1917-1918 "938" per 1,000 parts silver content stamp.  The authenticator also concluded that the oak leaves were period to the cross and are 1918 in style and construction.  The ribbon, however, although proper format, is not of period manufacture but was noted to be an acceptable replacement ribbon even though the thread pattern is incorrect.  The medal is in exquisite condition as seen in the photos and will come with the piece of authenticating paperwork as well as the display case which it is resting in.  the display case measures 18" x 12" x 1 7/8".

The medal has a modest reserve set that should easily be attained.

Preview available to those interested by appointment up until the Friday before the sale.

Online bidders shall pay a 15% buyers premium, payment shall be made via wire transfer.  Shipping is available or personal delivery may also be possible at that point in time.
