This discovery art auction features a variety of pieces covering multiple eras and mediums. Highlights include several oil paintings, watercolors, lithographs, mixed media works, and prints. Featured artists range from lesser-known local artists to internationally renowned names like Gustave Doré and Pablo Picasso.
Featured landscapes include oil paintings from Vernon Wood and multiple entries by Berks County-based artist Basil Martin spanning scenes from snow-covered winter forests to springtime meadows. Cesare A. Ricciardi contributes a 20th century harbor vista while other moments of scenic interest range from coastal marshes to mountain villages. Beyond sweeping landscapes, intimate tabletop studies also appear courtesy of Oscar Roelecke’s 19th century still life presenting pigs feet as the curious subject.
Florals feature as well, including delicate pansy studies and more avant-garde tangled flower compositions. Rural countryside scenes abound too, some focusing on animals like grazing sheep while others capture covered bridges and mountain villages. Architectural interest comes by way of church interiors and buildings situated in marshy coastal locales.

Portraiture and the figure make an appearance too. A touching piece captures a couple holding hands in a garden while other works include solitary figures like a man rowing a boat. Several Cubist-style figural studies reflect more abstract aesthetics. Other entries lean surreal, like the whimsical seascape backdrop to a reclining nude.

The contemporary category contains screen prints by Max Epstein, monoprints, and photographs capturing fellow artists. Mixing modern subject matter with old world mediums, one especially unique work features Australian Aboriginal artist Albert Namatjira’s landscape interpretation. Other nods to diversity include a portrait of a Native American elder and scenes of traditional Eskimo fishing practices.
