Regalia of John Hibble Lodge #44 IOOF
John Hibble held the rank of captain during the Civil War. He died at Petersburg, Virginia, before the war ended. It appears that brother Hibble joined Marshall Lodge #44 of the Oddfellow‘s in 1849. The date on the regalia shows that year. We have learned that brother Hibble was secretary of Marshall lodge, and that was the first Oddfellows lodge in Gloucester, Virginia. Brother Hibble was a landowner in the Cappahosic section of Gloucester. Part of his house is still standing today. When Marshall Lodge broke up the regalia was taken to the home of Mrs. Emilia Thurston of Gloucester County. About 40 years ago the collar and apron were given to Mr. Clyde Singleton of Bellamy Mr. Singleton gave it to Mrs. Randolph Mason who promised to turn it over to brother CB Anderton who presented it to Mobjack Lodge #273. This truly a piece of Odd Fellows history. Paperwork included from the lodge.
