Presents

An Autumn Gathering

Saturday and Sunday, November 14 & 15, 2020 at 11:00 a.m.

This two-day auction will be the perfect conclusion to our 2020 auction schedule with its incredible catalog of fine art, rarities and decorative pieces that we’ve gathered from estates and families throughout New England.

With our continued concern for the health and safety of valued customers and staff, we will conduct this important sale as a LIVE VIRTUAL AUCTION.  We will provide multiple remote viewing and bidding options (including telephone, absentee and internet) to ensure a fun and worthwhile experience for all.  The auction will be live streamed in real time for viewing on all three internet bidding platforms (ThomastonLive, Invaluable and LiveAuctioneers).

On Saturday, November 14, we will offer an outstanding selection of fine art, including works by Alfred Thompson Bricher, Albert Bierstadt, Joseph Goodhue Chandler, Gustave Courbet, and James McDougal Hart; plus ship paintings by Brian Coole and Wesley Webber; and rare prints, including pieces by Basilius Besler and Elijah Burritt. Among the inventory of antique furniture will be an 18th Century Canadian painted diamond point cupboard, New England country store stock cabinet in green paint, a French Louis XVI kingwood kidney shaped writing desk, plus a group of early Scandinavian pieces. There will also be a selection of weathervanes, early ecclesiastical wood carvings, and antiquities, such as a 2nd-3rd Century AD Roman stone sculpture of the head of a patrician lady wearing a crown of Athena.  Finally, this day will include ship models & marine items, estate silver, early clocks, and fine oriental carpets.

On Sunday, November 15, the emphasis will be on late 19th to early 20th Century decorative arts, featuring artwork by: Fernando Cueto Amorsolo, Frank Swift Chase, Francois Gilot, Karel Christiaan Appel, and Dahlov Ipcar; plus sculptures by Henry Moore and Dmitri Chiparus; and a rare etching by James McNeill Whistler. A circa 1920 48” Old Town Canoe store display will be sold, along with 5 vehicles -- led by a 1947 Ford Woody Model 79A station wagon. Also of interest will be a Faberge silver and guilloche enamel frame, 2 circa 1900 musical themed stained glass windows, a Minton majolica four-tier oyster server, and 2 early carousel animals. Among the furniture selection will be Danish modern, Starbay, Eldred Wheeler and D.R. Dimes pieces. Rounding out the day will be a selection of American art pottery, Tiffany lighting and art glass, 2 Verne Q. Powell silver flutes; fine silver and a variety of Russian items.

Previewing in our gallery will be available on Monday, November 2 to Friday, November 6 from 9 to 5 p.m., Sunday, November 8 from noon to 5 p.m., and on Monday, November 9 to Wednesday, November 11 from 9 to 5 p.m. Please call us with questions or to set up a bid.  Visit our website at www.thomastonauction.com to view  a complete virtual catalog.  Buyer’s Premium is 17% (20% for online bidders). Please call our courteous and knowledgeable staff if you have any questions.
