(August) and Marie Baade farm west of Enid commenced with a Certificate of Purchase from the Commissioners of the Land Office, filed in Enid Sept. 20, 1915. Amply described by text, vintage photographs, and documents in The Rev. Eugene W. Baade's book, More Than Just A Living, about his grandparents and their siblings, the Baades developed their farm around livestock, wheat, and produce. Their economic progress was described in a July 1925, Farm and Fireside article written by J.A. Baade. Central to their success was the development of a market in Enid for dairy products and homemade sausage of the highest quality. Detailed ledgers maintained around 1920 describe in fine detail the business of the farm. John August and Marie raised 3 children: Walter, Esther, and Arthur. J.A. died in 1950. Marie who outlived their children, died at the age of 99 in 1980. Upon her death the farm went to the grandchildren and is also presently co-owned by great-grandchildren. Grandson Dale Baade and his wife, Barbara, began occupying the farm in the 1970s. Since his passing in 2016, the farm has been rented out by the family and remains in a wheat-producing farm. Article, revised, written by August and Marie's grandson, The Rev. Eugene W. Baade of Renton, WA, for inclusion in OKLAHOMA CENTENNIAL FARMS AND RANCHES: Preserving Our Agricultural Heritage of Family Owned Farms and Ranches- 30th Anniversary Edition.
