Listing Information

This Book Collection comes from the Estate of Arthur and Rosemary Jefferson. The History and Acquisition is fascinating. Many of the Books are Ex Libris Fred & Maude Black.

Fred Black was very close with the Ford Family. He was hired and served as a Executive in Henry Fords office from 1918-1940. There are numerous articles and accounts on the internet of his many jobs and accomplishments including his instrumental involvement with the acquisition and move of the old Wright Cycle Company Building to Greenfiled Village(1936), Overseeing Ford Exhibits at 1933 and 1934 Worlds Fair, and becoming one of the first pilots in Michigan. The book collection was acquired by Arthur Jefferson (Dearborn) who was a close friend of Fred's. The Jefferson family was very involved with preserving the history of Detroit and The Detroit Institute of Arts. The family told us that Fred Black was directly involved and helped acquire Rare Books for the Ford Collection. During this period, Mr. Black was also building a Rare Book Collection himself. See the preliminary photos posted of The Jefferson Library in their Dearborn home where this collection was kept. Many Exciting and Important Books will be available to collectors around the world for the 1st time from this collection. Stay Tuned. Questions and Requests to see any of these books in person should be directed to Joseph Merkel-President Merkel's Auction Specialists, Inc. by calling him directly at 734-320-9828. Thank you for your interest and links to bid online will be available early in November.
