Fall 2019 Auction Weekend

November 8, 9 & 10 at 11:00 a.m.

Our three-day fall auction includes a bumper crop of fresh-to-the market rarities gathered from estates and collections throughout the U.S. This amazing and diverse inventory is sure to score home run among both collectors and decorators.

On Friday, November 8, the auction will present important examples of American popular culture, led by 26 lots of rare 1909 -1912 baseball cards, an original Mayfair Studio first recording of Bob Dylan singing “Too Much of Nothing”, a George Harrison hand written note and drawing, plus a diverse group of autographs, rare documents and books, and estate jewelry.  This day will feature Native American artifacts, featuring an early Plains Indian tomahawk, large carved totem pole, a Navajo Germantown eye dazzler rug, and Taino antiquities.  Finally, there will be a group of over 70 fine portrait miniatures, featuring works by Jean Baptiste Isabey, Jean Baptiste Augustin, and Moritz Daffinger.

On Saturday, November 9, we will offer an outstanding selection of antiques and fine art, featuring paintings by Edmund Charles Tarbell, Maurice Utrillo, John George Brown, William Garl Brown, Jr., William Partridge Burpee, and an early portrait attributed to John Brewster.  A full-length Benjamin Franklin form figurehead from the sidewheeler SS Franklin will be presented, along with an 18th Century tole tray painted with a shipwreck scene, a deck bell from the Pittsburgh riverboat “William Whigham”, and a Revolutionary War naval cannon salvaged from the Piscataqua river in 1954. There will be important antique furniture, such as a Boston Sheraton card table attributed to John & Thomas Seymour, a Federal period eagle-topped convex looking glass, and 17th Century Continental elm trestle table. A large selection of Chinese antiques will include a middle Qing bulbous cinnabar vase and a 6-piece suite of Chinese embroidered silk court apparel.  Finally, this day will include oriental carpets, decoys, weathervanes, fine weaponry, plus early clocks, silver and delft.

On Sunday, November 10, the emphasis will be on late 19th and 20th Century decorative arts, led by abstract paintings by Christiaan Beekman, Alexei von Jawlensky, and William Baziotes; plus works by Thomas Hart Benson, Andre Harvey, Arthur Garfield Dove, Anthony Thieme, Emile Gruppe, Charles Dana Gibson, Eric Hopkins and Robert Laurent.  Designer furniture such as an Edward Wormley designed mid-century sofa and Paul McCobb secretary desk will be sold, along with contemporary leather furniture, a George Smith Ltd. kilim covered sofa, and handcrafted pieces by Eldred Wheeler and D.R. Dimes.  The estate jewelry & watch collection will include a lady’s ruby & diamond bracelet, platinum and diamond leaf form earrings, and Patek Philippe 18K gold wristwatch. Sunday will also offer a Laing’s Planetarium orrery, a selection of Japanese artifacts, Louis Vuitton steamer trunk and suitcases, Brother Thomas Bezanson art pottery, estate silver, art glass, and fine lighting fixtures.
