Vontury Art Pottery, founded by Francis Joseph von Tury, reflects his rich heritage and innovation in ceramics. Born in Hungary in 1901 and immigrating to the U.S. in 1929, von Tury was part of a family that had been in the ceramics business for four generations. His art pottery is distinguished by its single firing process, a technique he pioneered and which became a standard in the industry. This method was more efficient than the traditional multiple firing processes. Von Tury's pottery was recognized for its unique style and quality, leading to his work being featured in major events like the 1935 and 1939 World Fairs. He also created porcelain vessels for George Jensen in the 1940s-50s. Von Tury's creations are part of collections in top museums like The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Smithsonian Institution. He passed away in 1992, but his legacy in American studio ceramics endures through his innovative Vontury Art Pottery
