422 S. MAIN ST.,

SHREWSBURY, PA 17361

OPEN HOUSES: 9/25 from 5pm-6pm & 10/3 from 3pm-4pm

This beautiful 5 bedroom 3 bath historic house sits on 1.12 acres in Shrewsbury, PA. The house has hardwood floors in the kitchen, living room, dining room, foyer, stairs and 3 of the bedrooms. The kitchen has stainless steal appliances, gas stove and a gas fire place. There is also a gas fire place in the living room, dining room and 2 of the bedrooms. There is also a pot belly gas stove in the sunroom. There is one full bath on the main level outside of the mudroom. There is a balcony off of the master bedroom that connects to the master bath and the other full bath on the second level. Outside there is beautiful gardens with a fish pond, a tiered deck, Arbor gazebo and a vine covered garden house.

There is also an over sized two car garage, barn with electric and workshop and a smoke house with original bake oven.

This house is on public water and sewer.

HISTORICAL OCCURRENCES:

The original portion of the house was believed to be built in the late 1700's, later sections in the 1800's. During the 1800's this home was used as an Inn and in 1819 had a very famous guest by the name of Andrew Jackson who was in route to New York from Washington when he and 10 of his associates were caught in a snow storm.  Mr. Jackson and his entourage stopped at the Inn for refreshment and rest.  While there he negotiated the rental of a sleigh in order to continue the trip.  This however did not work out all that perfect as the sleigh broke down and they had to rent another which enraged Mr. Jackson.  He concluded his trip, but not before then Mr. Jackson let his feelings known.  This incident was used against him in the presidential campaign between him and John Quincy Adams of which President Jackson won.
