President Franklin Roosevelt died in 1945 after years of struggling over World War II that was nearing its end. The free world mourned and honored his memory on a new coin with his portrait. Since the late president had been afflicted with Polio, it seemed natural to use the dime, now symbolic of the struggle to end polio through the world the "March of Dimes" fundraising campaign begun during Roosevelt's first term. The reverse features a torch , a symbol of freedom with olive and oak branches denoting peace and victory. Very few of these were saved in their original mint uncirculated condition and are quite scarce. They have been minted since 1946

President Franklin Roosevelt died in 1945 after years of struggling over World War II that was nearing its end. The free world mourned and honored his memory on a new coin with his portrait. Since the late president had been afflicted with Polio, it seemed natural to use the dime, now symbolic of the struggle to end polio through the world the "March of Dimes" fundraising campaign begun during Roosevelt's first term. The reverse features a torch , a symbol of freedom with olive and oak branches denoting peace and victory. 3 - 1909 Lincoln Head Cent For more than a century, Congress would not depict a recognizable person on a US coin until Teddy Roosevelt became president. for the first time in history, a person, Abraham Lincoln, was honored to celebrate the 100th anniversary of his birth. Victor D Brenner, an artist who admired Lincoln, designed the new cent using a bust of Lincoln. For the first time, the words "In God We Trust" appeared on a coin. At over 100 years, the Lincoln head cent is the longest running series of any US coin design
