A Note about Sandy's Life and Times

Sandy Dobbrow, a long-time tennis professional and friend to all - passed away in Granbury, Texas in February 2020.

Sandy was born in Natick, Massachusetts.  He attended the University of Northern Colorado and obtained a Master's Degree in Recreation with a minor in Psychology in 1978.  Although Sandy was an excellent baseball pitcher in college, tennis became his passion after being introduced to the game by a professional tennis player from Thailand who was also attending the University of North Colorado.  Sandy fell in love with the game and spent the next 40+ years working as a teaching tennis professional.  After graduation, Sandy left for Cape Cod where he became the teaching pro at Chatham Bars Inn and the Queen Anne Inn.  Most recently, Sandy worked at Wequassett Resort & Golf Club.  When winters rolled in, Sandy headed home to Granbury and taught at Pecan Plantation and DeCordova.  He also taught at Saddlebrook in Florida and tennis resorts in Phoenix, Arizona where he enjoyed taking in baseball spring training games and collecting baseball cards and autographs.

Although Sandy followed numerous sports (baseball, basketball, football, hockey, tennis), he was a faithful New England Patriots, Red Sox and Celtics fan and frequented Fenway Park every year.   He had an in-depth knowledge and recollection of many professional teams and players and became an enormous collector and expert on sports memorabilia.  He shared his passion with anyone who would listen and  persuaded many friends to join him when getting autographs.

Sandy had myriad of interests, loved the beach, enjoyed getting out in nature, and spending time with friends.  He was always ready to go to any sporting event, concert, or play.  Sandy played the drums, and loved all genres of music; he had over a thousand records and hundreds of cassettes and CDs.  One of his more pronounced passions was food, especially Thai cuisine.

Sandy is remembered by his family and friends as the kindest of souls.  He loved playing games and was a huge jokester.  He had an incredible smile, an awesome sense of humor, and always looked for the silver lining.  Sandy passed due to respiratory failure, but had fought cancer and leukemia the past year.  Many of his closest friends didn't know Sandy was sick; he refused to give in and bravely fought every step of the way with a positive outlook.  He was loved by all who knew him and, in turn, Sandy cherished his friends immensely.

Auctioneer's Note:

There are many autographed items in Sandy's collection, although there are very few certificates of authenticity.  We are selling the majority of Sandy's legacy, just as he put it together and stored it for many years.  If the word 'autographed' is included in an item, we can only assume it is authentic, but have no certificates or proof that it was personally signed by the player or celebrity.  Some trading cards came autographed from the publishers, we are not trying to imply that every signature was personally signed by the player or celebrity. Unfortunately Sandy did not leave many notes associated with his collection, so we are selling it as his beneficiary found it, and are honored to highlight his collection to the world, we hope that you can find a missing piece of your collection and can enjoy it as well.

Please Enjoy!
